When I try and reformat in windows, it doesn't let me do so, and gives me no reason. So I decided to just put in the xp cd and reinstall/reformat from there. But here's another problem, it just locks up when it tries to examine disk 0. There is no progress bar and the hd is making no noise and the hd light isn't going on. Please help!

Sounds to me like your hard drive has some serious data corruption either near or in its headers. If you've already got a good run out of it, i think it's time to look into a new one.

hey there, are you trying to reinstall/reformat with the cd through windows itself? or did you put the cd in, restart and use that reinstall feature? hey try using the repair console with the xp setup cd, put the cd in, reboot, and run the setup prog off the cd, instead of install though, use the repair console and manually rape the partitons on the drive, then reboot again and re run the setup off the cd and have the setup prog reformat the drive before installing...... if not do you have ntfs or fat partitions? ==== boot disk off of diskette (if you have a diskette drive) then rape the hardrive that way.
