Problem w/ SB Live and WinXP

Seems w/ the MS drivers, or the official Creative drivers, my card pops on certain audio...........
not so much like the card and drivers suck as it works pretty well on mp3's but like the system is getting bogged down.

unless this is some odd driver bug and windowsXP...

I assume it migh be XP bogging down, many users see slow down occasionally in WinXP

Yet I have an athlon 1.53ghz and 256mb DDR ram..

anyone have any ideas on what exactly could be causing this? or better yet a fix..

Also anyone else having this problem?

Thanks
Dave

I emailed Microsoft Support and i got a response within hours, go figure 🙂 Here's what Johnny ( engineer with Microsofts Online Support Team) had to say about my crackling noise in games...

"As I understand the issue is: Creative SB Live Value card did not work
normally for games on Windows XP. If I have misunderstood your
concern, please let me know.

According to my research, I have included the following information for
your reference:

I have checked the Creative website for the Creative SB Live Value card
driver. Unfortunately, there is no Creative SB Live Value card driver
for XP currently. I noticed you have installed the Sound Blaster card XP
driver; it might not work properly on Windows XP. It is strongly
recommended to contact the vendor Creative for update on this driver.
Actually, when a new operating system is released, usually lots of
third-party venders or manufacturers will update their products to take
full advantage of new features in the latest OS. There may be a little
transition period for the new drivers to come out. But mostly likely the
hardware manufacture has already been aware of this issue and has been
working on it.

On the other hand, would you please try installing Creative SB Live
Value card driver for Windows 2000 on your XP machine to see if it
works? However, we cannot guarantee this will work. I am sorry for any
inconvenience this may bring."

I get more confused by the day, lol Guess we're waitin on Creative

yeah thats my thing. I installed the Creative SB Live! value driver for XP
still crackles though, course I dunno if its the right one or not, since there are 2, gives some model numbers, but doesnt really bother to give a nice easy way to know which is which.

glad (in a way) to hear Im not the only one......is annoying though. notice audigy drivers were out quick........... whatever........ I hate when companies abandon customers.....
XP has been in beta plenty long enough to get the freaking drivers working, not to mention the drives for 2000 worked fine in 2000, shouldnt have needed much tweaking

The model number should be printed on the card it was in the upper right corner of my live value. Unfortunately i was an early adopter of SBlive and the xp driver for my model card is not yet available. That is probably my biggest complaint with creative. There was plenty of time to have a good driver ready yet it still isn't here. They are estimating end of November but i wouldn't be surprised if it is January when it arrives. Try turning down the hardware accelleration down to the next to lowest setting in the meantime that helped reduce a lot of the sound quality issues i was having. Or you could do what i did just ditch creative and their poor driver support and cross over to a Santa Cruz their xp drivers have been available for over a month. The card sounds much better as well.

yeah, its all marketing. they've had time, want you to get an audigy though or at least a 5.1 live.

Honestly if they were cheap enough Id just go to another card. but Ive had this live for a while now. and Im not a sound buff, dont really need an audigy, and a Game Theater XP sounds cool, but dont really NEED it either. Only reason I got the live is b/c I had the Vortex2 and A3D went out of business leaving driver support VERY shotty.

Still its pathetic we all have to deal with crackling sound. Like I said, not sure if I have the right version of the live value, but I installed the drivers, worked fine..... still crackles though.

So even in Nov, might have the same probs

Dave

My sound go to crackle too BUT it dosent anymore as I tuned the sound down in the creative audioHQ software..

you guys might want to try it out
