Problem W/SB Live 5.1

Just built my new rig late last week. running win2k and when I go to creative playcenter2. error comes up stating it could not initialize digitalaudio's com object.
Any ideas?
I can also not get it to play any mp's or cd's either.

PS. Mobo is is PC chips m817lr w/ALI MAGIK, NO via AND CD-r is phillips 8x4x32xs

What mb/chipset do you have? If Via, have you installed vias 4in1? Have you updated the bios?
