Hi,
I just installed my Plextor CD-RW and now when I try and play CD's in my regular CDROM, the computer slows down to a crawl. It works just fine when I place the CD in the Plextor and then hook up headphones to the jack on the front of the drive. I've tried the Plextor as both master and slave on the secondary channel and it is still the same. Both the CD players are on the secondary IDE channel. My system is as follows:
P3 700@933
Asus P3V4X Mobo
128 MB PC133 Infineon
SB Live! Value
Plextor 8/4/32 IDE
Digital Research 40X CDROM
30GB IBM 75GP 72000 RPM
Should I hook up the audio cable to the Plextor instead of the Digital Research? I remember reading somewhere before that it wasn't good to use a CD-RW to read cd's. Something about cutting the lifespan. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Under the Device Manager did you enable DMA for the Plextor? How about the CDROM?

Yes, I have all the boxes checked. DMA, Sync data transfer, Disconnect, Auto insert notification are checked in both.

Uncheck Sync Data Transfer for ONLY the Plextor, I heard that this will decrease CDR performance if enabled.
