Problem w/ Brother HL-1440 Printer

I have had this printer for over 2 years with little problem but yesterday I found that my computer no longer sees the printer at all. The printer is configured to LPT1, but in my device manager, no LPT1 port is listed. I have a LPT3, which is "x-ed" out. I have no idea what happened to LPT1. I have tried installing the port, but windows doesn't seem to be able to do it. If I de-install LPT3, scan for hardware changes, windows sees nothing. If I try to install a new LPT port, it installs LPT3 and says "the device isn't functioning properly." What is going on here? HELP!!!

This may have something to do with some programs I ran a couple days ago...registry sweepers and optimizers...I don't know. Somehow, my printer port was obliterated. I have no idea how. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

OK, please disregard. I discovered that the parallel port had been disabled in my BIOS. How, I don't know but I guess windows couldn't figure out what to do with the printer port because of that and assigned LPT3 as a default. It's fixed, anyway.
