Problem w/ AK31A r3.1, won't detect HD.....

This is probably too simple of a solution but it's what my problem was..... I was having problem with it detecting my 60gxp until I switched out the hard drive cable to the one sent with the board. After that - no problems.

Actually, i have two different cables, and neither of work to fix this problem, i wonder if the HDD is dead, i might just format my old HDD and see if i can get this to work....hmm..i can't think of anything else...

I just hooked up one of these boards. Works like a dream. Dont give up... It took me a while to get the floppy up and running. Don't know what I did, but all of a sudden it worked. Try checking all your connections and stuff and unplug / replug everything that's easy to get at. If you got other cables try those too.

On my floppy drive, there was no markings for the direction of the drive cable (i.e. where was the red pin 1?). It fit both ways so I tried it both ways and messed with enabling and disabling it in the bios. Some combination finally worked and luckily I didn't mess the drive or the board up in the process. Kept getting Floppy Disk Failure (error code 40) or something like that, then it just worked. It seems to be a very stable board now that I'm up and running though.

I had the same problem with my Western Digital WD4500AA hard drive (ATA66 5400 RPM). It just would not detect the hard drive on master or slave. But when I set it to single, it worked! It's weird. Also, I bought another Western Digital 40gb ATA100 7200RPM and it had no problems detecting the drive when set to master or slave. So, it looks like it had problems with just the one hard drive (the hard drive works fine in another computer of mine...so I know it's the board). I bought my board from Mwave and I should be receiving a replacement board from them soon.
