Problem updating the firmware for HP CD-Writer 9350i

I downloaded the firmware from HP Support Center.

The update program says "couldn't determine if the software included with your CD-Writer Plus drive was properly installed...."

WTF? I don't understand. What's the relationship between the software and the firmware? Anyone has this problem before?

How to update the firmware?

Unfortunately, you must install at least one component of the HP software along with the tools/firmware update proggy. Crazy but true.

The problem is the update firmware software is not compatible with Win2k.:|

I could not upgrade the firmware on my 9110 with the drive running on a VIA 133a chipset motherboard. After installing the drive in an old P100 system from work, the flash went fine.

I am getting the same error message, and I am running Win98SE on an i815 motherboard. I have all the HP software installed. WTF?!?!

Anone know who makes this drive for HP? Is it a Sony?
