Problem updating Avira Free

I have the latest version of Avira Free(product version 12.0.0.849) & the latest virus definition update keeps failing when it gets to around 12500 kb downloaded.
I've tried it now 3 times with the same result.

Each time though initially it says it the download will be way less than that in size though. Yesterday, the first time,it showed only 2200 kb size, 2nd time it said ~4K kb & i just tried again this morning it initially said ~8K kb download.


Looking around on Avira's website i found this page. There's a VDF zip file you can download but does anyone know where i place it?
Never looked around the Avira directory, is there a "VDF" file to place the zipped files into?

Just do a manual update and point the updater to the path to the downloaded zip file, Avira will do the rest.

having the same problem, I'm downloading the vdf file now but it's really slow,15kbs/sec.

Not sure how to "point the updater to the path to the downloaded zip file". I usually right click on the system tray icon & choose "Update" from the drop down menu.

I was at my parents house yesterday & downloaded the zip already. They have cable internet, i'm on dial-up. It was a little over 50MB.
Anyone know what to do now?

Just to let you know, i tried updating again & it went thru a couple of days ago, so the problem is solved for now.
