Problem Unlocking My Athlon XP 1800+

This is my second attempt at unlocking the XP (got a new XP 1800+, gonna sell my first failed unlock attempt).

I put epoxy between the L1 bridges and applied the conductive pen to it, but here's the problem:

Anything on or over 11.5 (the default multiplier for 1800) results in 11.5 multiplier. Anything lower than 11.5 won't even boot up.

I'm thinking that the conductive pen might have accidentally leaked into the middle of the laser cuts. If that happens, is it irreversible in that I can't use rubbing alcohol to try to start over?

This is extremely frustrating since every time I apply the conductive pen, I swear the connections are just fine. I have no multimeter to test the resistance, but I'm thinking there must be something else wrong with my approach altogether.

I am open to any suggestions. Is epoxy a bad idea, shoud I go for superglue? If an accidental leak into the laser cut is reversible, at least I can start over again.

if youre not sure of the proper materials, scour the net and find a ready athlon xp unlocking kit. that's what i'm gonna get for mine.. just to be sure i got the right stuff. should cost <$10, and will include everything you need.

i read at tom's hardware that the trace pencils cannot lower the resistance enough on the xp cpus to completely unlock the multipliers. perhaps there is a mid way conductivity? a grey area that shows the multipliers but wont apply them properly? just a thought. they recommended using silver lacquer, so i would try to start over if you can.

Fill the gaps and then use Defogging fluid from a defogging repair kit, it works extremely well.l

I have a little expierence with your problem. I have a k7s5a so I have to hardlock the multiplier on the cpu itself. I used white out to fill the gaps and cuts that I created. Any time any of the defogger liquid touch any of the metal inside the gap or cuts...it would default to 11.5. You have to look extremely close because even if its contacting with the metal at a point the size of a pin...it still would default to 11.5. I would say that the process is reversable because all i did was recut between the bridges, clean them out, refill them and then repaint them. and I got it up to 12.5. I wanna go to 13.5 but i'm too lazy to go through through the process again...

<< Be cool like me and buy MP's. Easy unlocking.. *cough* >>

Ugh... but the price! The price! :D

Actually, I found out the exact problem. The Circuitworks Conductive Pen that I had used was just not conductive enough. So the epoxy to fill the L1 gaps wasn't the issue. After applying the conductive grease from HighSpeedPC's XP unlocking kit, it unlocked perfectly. I couldn't get it to go much faster than my previous FSB overclock, but oh well.
