problem! spilled arctic silver :(

i was transferring arctic silver from the hsf to the processor (amd 2600+ mobile) and some slid off and dropped onto the sides of the processor and a small portion of the motherboard. i have 2 questions--a) because it's silver based, will i have a problem? their website claims that it was designed to have a high resisitivity...but i've also heard horror stories. b) what should i do now, is it ok to leave it and to continue or should i attempt to clean up more (i've already wiped the affected areas off to the best of my ability, but the tint remains). if i should clean up more, what method would be best.

It's probably fine but if you feel nervous about it you can use some non-greasy brake cleaner (xylene) or goof off to clean up the remainder of the mess.

and it's ok to use on the actual cpu? how about on the motherboard, there are a lot of tiny rectangular capacitor looking things, i just wanna make sure i'm not going to ruin anything by applying this goof off stuff.

Yes, it's safe to clean the entire CPU with those agents as well as the motherboard. The brake cleaner evaporates leaving no residue, at least the stuff I has does.

Some people wash their CPUs with dish soap, you just have to make sure the chip dries for many hours before you try to use it again.

how does one spill a paste? i think your AS might be out dated or your using way too much.

be careful, AS is known to be slightly capacitive.

use a tshirt and some alchohol, alchohol wont hurt your cpu.

I know... The first time I heard that I felt the same way. I still prefer degreaser and/or high % isopropyl alcohol.

i don't think i was using too much, it was just my mistake, the thing on as's website said to never apply the as directly to the cpu. i was transferring it to the cpu core with a razor blade, and it was kinda dripping and i thought it was ok, but it dripped off the razor blade, and now i have to deal with this crap

Dishsoap and a q-tip is the BOMB when it comes to cleaning silver stuff. It is like a silver magnet. After drying I use alcohol to clean the surface then reapply immediately and have NEVER had a problem.
