I have an Excel file open. I try to open another one by going to File->Open. But when I do, the one I had open gets minimized (no longer shows on the bottom of the screen as a tab) and gets replaced by the new one. The only way to access the previous worksheet is if I minimize the new one.

Now this isn't the case a month ago or so. Neither is this the case on other coworkers' computers. Another tab opens up on other computers instead of replacing the previous one.

I found a work around by going to the folder where the file is residing and clicking on it opening it that way.

There must be some kind of option in Excel that got changed. Would someone pleae help?

Thank you in advance.

Man, you can stand Excel opening a new instance of each file on the taskbar?? I can't. First thing I turn off after I turn off the dynamic menu BS to get menus that are consistent.

If the option is available in your version of Excel it will be in:
Tools --> Options --> View tab --> Under 'show' there will be the option 'Windows in Taskbar' that is the option I think you want.

Alternately you can cycle between files with the CTRL-TAB (as mentioned), or by going to the Window menu option in Excel and choosing the appropriate workbook with the mouse.
