I am trying to print from my WinME machine to a printer on my XP Home machine. The printer has been shared, files can be accessed, but the ME machine doesn't detect the printer. It is a HP Deskjet882C, the latest drivers are included in XP. Thanks!

you need to install drivers for the ME machine. though I ditched me a long time ago, I can't really help beyounf that

On what machine and how? If you just want the files, HP's installer that doesn't give you access to the them. You have to install it to get them.

1) Download the latest driver for the printer
2) Install it as a LOCAL printer, pointed at LPT1
3) Once the driver is installed, right click the printer, go to properties, details, add port.
4) Add a local port of \\XP_machine_name\Printer_share_name
5) Select the new port instead of LPT1

I've never been able to do it with HP's, basically because you need driver files, and all hp provides is an install program. I suggest finding out what type of install program it is and then extracting the driver files.

If my guess is correct, he ran the Network Startup program on each of the PC's connected to the XP machine. This installs the files on the non-XP machines that allow it to network properly and share resourses. There is a utility included with XP Pro to make the diskette.
