The solution:
I noticed that I could decrease the resolution from 1024x768 to 800x600, to 640x480 and then increase it stepwise. But trying to increase from 1024x768 to the next "step" up gave me a screen blink and 1024x768 again.
A friend of mine with a 9800 Pro documented that he could access 1280x960 and 1600x1200 after 1024x768. So the video modes were there.
So, in a fit of inspiration, I decided to check the available resolutions in the control panel.. I had 1024x768, I had 1184x852, I had 1280x1024... but no 1280x960. The game couldn't just skip 1280x960, so it tried jumping to a mode the video drivers didn't explicitly support.. and failed. By failing to achieve 1280x960, I couldn't skip past it to 1600x1200.
Solution: I forced 1280x960 as a custom resolution. NFS:U2 can now access it, since it exists, and I can skip past 1280x960 to get to 1600x1200.
So, if your NFS can't go past 1024x768, it's because you're missing 1280x960. Pass it on.
Hey guys!
I usually post a few answers in these forums rather than questions, but this has me stumped. I am running a reference 6800 Ultra, with 75.90 Extreme-G drivers, on an Asus P4C800-E motherboard. Chipset drivers are installed, all other games can run at 1600x1200 with no performance problems and no crashes.
However, NFS:Underground 2 has been stuck at 1024x768 with either the older 66.93's, or the new beta drivers. If I try to change the resolution from 1024x768, it will change to 800x600 and 640x480 back and forth with no problem, but if I click the "right" arrow from 1024x768 graphics mode, the screen flashes and stays at 1024x768.
Are there any graphics driver or game settings that I'm missing? I have a 1600x1200 monitor, so I'd rather run 16x12 with no aa/af and get ultra-sharp graphics than 1024x768 with anti-aliasing, etc..
Thanks in advance for any help
