I boot up my pc and right before entering the desktop screen, the monitor goes blank. SO i went in safe mode, deleted every video driver i could find and rebooted. It went to the desktop screen and i went online to find me some new drivers. I downloaded a new driver for WIN2K. Once i install and reboot, the same thing happens. Blank screen. it seems like it won't let me install any drivers. I've tried almost all of the ones from 3dfx.com The video card is Guillemot Maxi Gamer Phoenix based on VooDoo Banshee chip. Any suggestions? Windows can't load the drivers either.
Thanks 🙁

maybe a resource conflict? even tho i am using acpi, i occasionally have to play musical pci slots when i install new hardware.

i'm going to update the BIOS, it's very very old. I can't think of anything else because I plugged my other monitor (sony) and it worked fine. So i thought it was my monitor(Micron). but i hooked up my laptop to it and its fine. I don't see any choices other then upgrade my bios (which i need to anyhow to support faster processors). The motherboard is Iwill BD100plus. Thanks

When I got my GTS-V, the hardware manager showed an error: The device cannot start. I tried reinstalling drivers and changing drivers, but I still had the same problem. I opened me computer and reseated the video card, and the problem went away.

ok, i've flashed the most current BIOS, and i've tried reseating the video card. Still NO luck! I can boot up in safe mode all the way with no problems. I booted up in VGA ENABLE and it boots up and the drivers are not loaded. I checked if the drivers were installed, and they were. So when i boot up normally, the same thing happens. Right before the destop screen, the monitor goes "peeww" like that sound a TV makes when you turn it off and goes blank. My pc is still running except i have nothing on my screen. Any more ideas?
Thanks

What resolution and refressh rate is your PC trying to use?

The fact that the other monitor worked, leads me to believe that your
computer is putting out a signal that is out of spec for your monitor.
(The sound you describe also sounds like the monitor is shutting itself
off to save itself from being ruined by a signal that is to high/low
resolution/refresh rate for it.)

Try lowering your resolution to 640x480 and your refresh rate to 60hz.
If that fixes it, then try increasing one of these at a time and see what
happens. You could also look up in your monitor manual to find the
acceptable range for the Vertical and Horizontal Frequencies and the
Maximum dot frequency.

ditto.

899x600 and at 65hertz, the monitor doesnt power off, the green light is still on but not as bright. I've used this monitor before on the same computer but with a tnt2ultra (fan died on it recently 🙁 )at higher resolutions and refresh rates, i don't know what to think anymore

btw, i only have soundblaster live value and that AGP video card in there, i'll try to move the sound card around tomorrow. Blah! Thanks again.

yeah baby!!!! Took out the SoundBlaster Live and solved all problems. woo hoo!!!! Thanks guys. What would a moron like me do without you guys? Thanks again.
Davi 😀

Did you toss away that sb live? If so, just try putting it in different slots until you get something that works.

Nope. I just replaced it with a Yamaha sound card. My father just wanted some sound and wouldn't benefit using the Live over the Yamaha. Now i can sell the Live and make a few bucks. Any offers? 🙂
