When said sib is breaking various laws, repeatedly and irresponsibly, we're far beyond a "family dispute". What part of "no insurance" did you fail to understand?

What part of "you don't need your local police department to keep your little brother from repeatedly 'stealing' the keys to your car" do you fail to understand?

Really.

What part?

Doesn't get much lower class than being your brother's doormat.

I see.

You firmly, and repeatedly feel that the police are needed to impose some sort of basic order in a person's family disputes, because simply KEEPING THE FUCKING KEYS away from your little brother is beyond the capacity of your average ADULT, in your opinion?

Dude, chill out. Every one of your last three posts is nearly verbatim the same words. I've already explained my view of the difference between a "family dispute" and a safety issue for the general public. If you don't agree, fine, but if you want to go in circles, you'll have to do it without me.

The safety issue for the general public can and would be avoided completely if he would take his keys with him and enforce rules for his own property. Why should the cops be involved? That makes no sense. If a child keeps getting into the cookie jar, you don't call the cops, you just impose more strict rules and move the cookie jar out of reach...

Exactly.

Stealing cookies doesn't put other drivers at risk of physical or financial injury.

If he'll steal his brother's car, who WON'T he steal from? The OP can store his keys in Fort Knox - that doesn't change the fact that we still have a car thief looking for his next ride.

Yes, call the police so they can tell you what 50 people have said here: Take the fucking keys from him and don't let him drive.

Take gun and shoot your brother in the head. Or change key to your house and lock him out.

Oblivious you haven't read the thread. But I take it you either hate your brother or dont have one.

Taking his brother's car without his brother's permission is quite different than being a car thief. Do you have siblings? Have they ever borrowed something without your permission? Did you call the cops? After all, they ARE thieves... I doubt his brother would go around stealing cars if he took the keys away.

The OP made it pretty clear that this is an ongoing problem. Has the little brother earned his own wheels yet? Has he got a job so that he can? No and no. Why should he - stealing someone else's car is much easier!

Do you think the little twerp is going to sit around saying to himself, "Golly, I wish I hadn't done that. I could be mobile if I'd been nice to my brother. Guess I learned my lesson!!"

Of course not...he's going to be looking for the second easiest way to get what he wants. And that is, next time he gets the keys, he's going to make his own copy. And then he's back on the road with no insurance.

WTF? You want him to fix the dings and dents?

Or did you mean you want him to return it WITHOUT dings?

<---confused by your wording!

Leave it in better condition then what he got it in. That way I will not notice the car was used. I am not a smoker, but everyone else in the family is, so i get angry when I see nothing but ashes in the car.

I found out that the car is insured so, I wouldnt be to much worried about the insurance, just him making ANOTHER copy of the key. I wish he would make an extra one for my explorer, hints, it cost $130~.

Okay, you've changed my mind. Don't call the police.

You've convinced me that you are getting your brother to do all the service on your car, so that you can have all the fun with it when you get home, without having to pay for the maintenance. You're taking advantage of him every bit as much as he's taking advantage of you.

If that's the deal you made with him, stop bitching about it. Stop trying to control the car every minute of every day. Be grateful that you're not spending your time at home sitting in the waiting room at some stranger's shop, and THEN paying for it. Be grateful that it's there waiting for you when you get home.

If you want your brother to treat you with respect, you'd better do him the same courtesy.

Well, when I am not at home, she has the keys, but when I am home I have the keys in my pocket. Do you leave your keys on your computer desk?

if I was having your problem, no.

I leave my keys all over my house, but no one is going to walk away with them.

I dunno about that, what do you drive? I've been looking for another car. I really like the 5 finger discount.

Go for it. Ask your mom if you can have the keys to her car, find out your brother has them, get them back two days later, drive from VA to KY, break into my house and it's all yours for the 10 minutes it would take the cops to find you.

I mean really, if it sounds like it's worth it.
