[PROBLEM SOLVED] Can't capture video with Matrox RT2500 and Sony MiniDV Cam, WinXP treating it wrongly.

Here's the deal, I just installed the Matrox RT2500, and am trying to capture video using DV 1394. The card is working properly with editing and caturing video from an analog source, but not digital. It can't detect my Sony DCR-TRV20 MiniDV Camcorder. I think the problem may be the way in which WinXP Home is treating the camera. In the troubleshooting section of the matrox manuel (also availiable here:Can?t capture with DV-1394, Y/C, or composite input) it says that a possible reason for this is windows detecting it as an imaging device, and that it has to be installed under "sound, video, and game controllers." The meathod that they tell you to use doesn't work in WinXP because the inf file that they tell you to use with the cam doesn't exist. Any ideas on how I can get a different driver for the cam that will put it under sound, video, and game controllers? Thanks. And the RT2500 has XP support!

OK I solved the problem by following the steps on this page.

Well. I use a Canon Optura Pi, it shows up in XP as an imaging device, and it captures just fine over firewire (using Premiere etc...)

I assume you are using Premiere. Did you configure premiere for the camcorder? Does (or did) anything happen when you connect the camcorder via 1394 and turn in on?

Try reinstalling the IEEE 1394 host controller in device manager. I had to do that once to reslove a booger.

Otherwise, try moving the card to another PCI slot.

After further research, I am sure that that is the problem. I need to find a way to use the non-microsoft drivers, but XP won't let me!
