Hey.. I upgraded my 300a sys to a 566.. I got it running at 850 no problem, 874 still seems a bit shaky even at higher voltages. I was messing with 112mhz FSB, and although the computer will post everytime, after post it either says Invalid boot device (like when you have a non-bootable floppy in) or Windows Logo flashes up and then system dies.

I've tried (briefly) messing with the 100/66 Select Mode, PIO Mode, UDMA.. hard drive is a Quantum Fireball LM 30gb 7200rpm (great drive btw, brand new). Mobo is BX6-2.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

TIA

Its the 37mHz PCI bus thwarting you. Your hard drive is probably 5400rpm or less? Try PIO mode4 (and suffer) or get a fast-rpm hard drive that can handle the odd PCI bus.

It's a 7200rpm Fireball LM, like I said in my first post *grin*. I do have an ISA AWE64 card and an ISA EtherlinkIII in the system, along w/ PCI NIC and Modem... found it weird that it was bitching about disk problems, but I guess it could be because of other stuff...

Any other thoughts?

TIA...

Yeah I was kinda wondering the same thing. I have the same mobo, but with a p3-700 @ 933 1.65 volts. And can't get any higher even putting the voltage a 1.8. But it seems wierd that it runs 933 stock voltage. I have 2 old 5400rpms hds. Could that be problem? Also I have a MX300, Netgear NIC, Asus Geforce 2 gts 32mb pure, and a pci modem that is just in there, not being used.

I know this isn't exactly helping you wensleydale, but a bump if nothing else :)

Your ISA is 9% overclocked. Remove all of the cards, except video, and see if it boots.

the Fireball plus LM's are all ATA/66 7200's
they are damn good drives, should be able to take the 37, i had mine at a tad higher than that a while back without a glitch, the Fireball is still consdidered one of the fastest best IDE har drives money can buy. I Love 'em!, that is a good overclock u got goin tho. u should settle down somewhere a bit under that and see how it goes.. like 900 MHz from a 566 is sweet!

Ditto.. the Fireball LM is such an impressive IDE drive. I want a another so bad. As for somewhere between 100 mhz and 112mhz FSB, I only have softmenu II, not III, so I can't chose anything in between.. well, other than 100 w/ the turbo mode which = 102.5. I'll assume it's a peripheral card issue, cause the HD and SDRAM is so new/good.

One other question.. would the Sel# 100/66 in the SoftCPU have any effect? What exactly does this do?

TIA...
