Problem Restoring Windows XP

Turned on PC and was getting a Windows Socket error, so I figured I'd boot up and hit the F8 key. Went an installed the "last working configuration" - figuring it would prompt me for a date which I was comfortable with - but instead it did it's thing. Well, when I re-boot it's first off screwed up the video, and it tells me that Nvdia (the display driver) is for an older version of Windows - ?????????????????????

Not sure what's going on - but I did get in and ran the Restore Wizard and tried four different restore dates - with no success. It tells me it can't restore for each particular date I picked.

I'm not sure how to get out of this dilema.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

This has all the earmarks of a virus/worm - one that effectively disables Restore.
