problem reading from 2nd sata drive

i setup my new ga-7n400 pro2 board with my old ide drive as boot drive and connected my 2 200gb sata drives ,the first drive reads/writes ok but the second one writes ok but if i try reading from the drive it locks up the pc most of the time.i did low-level formats and repartitioned to no avail.should i do surface tests now to see if theres a hardware fault.i got the latest windows xp service packs
 
have you tried scandisk / chkdsk on both of the SATAs? also perhaps there are updated bios for your motherboard that cure this problem...
