I am trying to port my number from my cingular account to a new verizon account. So my verizon phone can make calls and send & recieve sms's and mms's. I cannot recieve calls though. I guess that Cingular hasnt released my number yet or something...Its been a few days like this. My cingular phone can still make and recieve calls fine. I cannot cancel my cingular or I will lose my number. So right now, Im paying for 2 phones... (actually, me and my bro are doin the same thing, so between us were paying for 4 phones).

I hear that lots of people are having trouble with cingular releasing thier numbers...

fook them

edit: anyone else expiriencing problems porting from cingular, or anyone?
anybody have this go smoothly?

The porting problems are common for all the carriers. It was a massive task to take on so many customers trying to switch carriers. The worst one is Att. Verizon has nothing to do with the port problems, it is all on the old provider, cingular, to get the number switched. Carriers should be averaging about a 24-48 hour average on getting calls ported off their system but it is not the case. About 50% of customers are having problems. I would wait it out and call and ask Verizon for a credit for the days you couldn't use their service. They will want to keep you and will usually give you a credit on the account.

Verizon is doing the best for LNP and ATT is the worst. The others fall in the middle.

Edit: You should receive a text message from Verizon when the number is finally switched.
