problem playing wmv files

Lately, it seems that almost any wmv file I download doesn't play right. The audio is correct but the video pauses, jumps and what not. I've tried playing the movies in windows media player, winamp and Windvd and it does the same thing.

I had the Tsunami codec pack installed, so I downloaded gspot and ran that. Audio is Morgan Stream Switcher and video is WMVideo Decoder DMO. I installed Morgan Stream switcher and nothing. Downloaded a dll file, wmvdmod.dll and placed it in the system32 folder nothing...put it into the system folder...nada...

Also the video stram under reclock comes up as unknown

Any other suggestions?

It sounds to me like your video decoders are probably a mess (and why did you download that dll?).

I would suggest trying to uninstall some of your codec packs and see if you can back them off one by one until things get working again.

Video decoders are a real pain to clean up, one of my friends was having similar problems (but not with wmv files) and I eventually talked him into formatting and reinstalling windows to clean things up.
