Problem overclocking, need help

Well, I tried to overclock my 2600 tonight. It's the 266 FSB version.

I tried to change the multiplier. First I tried a huge increase to 22.5, but then went down as low as 18. Every time, I would lose video. The monitor light would just flash orange. My hard drive was working, which makes me think that windows was loading. Also, when I did load windows again, it gave me that screen saying windows didn't load completely last time, do you want to try safe mode.


Makes me think the overclock was working, but how come my video went away?

I am kinda confused by the ratio setting.

By default, my settings were

CPU bus 133
Ratio 4:2:1
x16

In the notes beside ratio, it says "FSB:AGP😛CI:

I'm not math expert, so what does that ratio mean? Since I kept the bus set at 133, I figured I wouldn't need to change the ratio from default.

So what am I doing wrong here?

Your computer isn?t booting your computer isn?t posting ... that?s a normal thing that happens when you over clock too high and your system cant do it .....it can mean allot of things like the ram has reached its max without increasing voltage too it your CPU has reached its max without increasing the voltage too it ... or your system is just not able to go any higher then it already has ..... i get the same thing when i over clock my AthlonXP 2500+ week1 CPU too anything over 183FSB ... my monitor doesnt post because my CPU cant go any higher and ive gotta clear cmos before i can get my computer too boot again.

If your 100% sure that your computer is working and getting into windows but just not booting the monitor ... its probably the monitor ... try a 15" or other monitor too test ...some monitors are fussy and dont work when you overclock.

ive never overclocked a Pentium4 ... but i'm pretty sure they use FSB too overclock not Multiplier !! try that
also your rams gotta support these speeds .. 🙂
 
I have an AMD. I was hoping that the ratio was the problem, so it would be simple to fix 😉

I just don't understand how the video card could have a problem with changing the multiplier.
 
OHHH SHEEETTT you have an AMD and your using 22 lol hahaha thats really funny 🙂

Your CPU at 133 and 22 Multiplier would make the 2600+ a 3Ghz Athlon XP 4800+ CPU lol

The default speed of that CPU is like 2Ghz you jumped too high .. try going just 1 or 2 steps up not 15 lol

If you would have read my post, you would have seen that I did try it slower also. I don't think x18 is asking too much.
