Problem opening a new window in IE6/WXP

Not sure what happened. I lost the ability to open a new window when I hold shift and click on a link in IE6. It comes up on the taskbar, but I have to right click and hit maximize to open the window. Any ideas appreciated. Thx.

It is usually necessary to Re-Install IE6, in order to refresh the program?s files, to avoid this problem.

However, with XP you need first to convince the OS that you do not have IE6. Otherwise, it will not reinstall.

Instructions here:

Repair Internet Explorer.

It sounds like the window is getting opened, however it is located outside of the visible area of the screen, therefore maximizing it allows you to view it.

I dont think a reinstall of IE will fix the issue! you just need to find the prefs for IE and trash them.

Here is what I would try, delete the registry key located at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Document Windows

Than logoff/login and relaunch IE, that should resolve the issue

If that doesnt fix it just delete the whole IE key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

Than logoff/login and relaunch IE

Good Luck!

edit: Why dont I think that a reinstall will resolve the issue?

Because reinstalling will use the prefs that were created before and will not remove them.
