Hi

guys Im building a rig for a friend and I have a very strange problem when I try to OC it
its a P4 2.4C on a Asus P4P800 and with Kingston Value Ram dual pack @ 400mhz, stock hsf

ok I try to OC it and it will go over 3ghz, but the target is 3 so Im trying to get it running nice at 3, the problem is that at 3ghz the ram will only work in 333 mode, dunno why, if I set it to 400 prime will fail in a couple minutes :(
now at lower cpu speeds the ram will run at faster than spec speeds, currently the cpu is at 2.73 and the ram is at 228 (running 1:1 with the cpu), ran prime for hours and its all good

what do you guys think this could be ??

please let me know

Thank you
Dan

It's probably the value ram. What are the ram specs, and what are you running it at?

well I know they arent the best modules, but its running at 228 easy (see post1) so it should do 200(especially since thats the rated speed :) ), which it does when the system is at stock, I just dont get it why at 3.0 it wont

bump up the vdimm voltage to 2.7to 2.8v and try to run at rated specs manually...don't trust the board to run spd at rams rate specs...I have seen boards reading these specs wrong....If the voltage and the rated specs don't run then either rma the ram (since it doesn't run at manufacturers rated speed, volatge and timings) or lower the cas timings further...Some boards just wont run aggressive timings....

Hi

it runs at the rated speed, but only when the cpu is at stock (see post 1) and it even runs at 460mhz when the cpu is at 2.8

trying the voltage now, thanks for the tip
done everything else, manual timings, tryied as loose as they get 3-4-4-8

Thanks

Try upping the vagp to 1.6 as well...It is safe but this sets the vcore of the northbridge chip as well and that can have a direct effect on the memory....
