Problem networking XP with 98

Please help! I've searched through this folder and tried everything but still can't get my home network working right. I have a Win98 machine connected to the internet, and I want to create a LAN with a WinXP machine and share the internet connection. So far I can succesfully ping from each computer, and I can see/access the shared folder on the Win98 PC from the WinXP PC. But I can't see the shared folder on the XP from the 98--when I try to select Entire Network, I get an "Unable to Browse Network" message. I haven't even tried the internet connection yet.
I'm using a crossover cable from the XP PC to a 2nd NIC in the 98 PC. I have the same workgroup names, different computer names, assigned IP addresses (192.168.0.1 and .2) and both machines use TCP/IP protocol, File and Printer Sharing. Any suggestions? Thanks!

You need to create an account in XP with the same name as the one in 98 in order for the 98 machine to be able to access the files.

Do you mean create a new user account? Because I can't assign the XP computer the same name as the 98.

Still no luck! This is wierd: the XP machine can see the shared folder on the 98 machine, but the 98 machine can't see the XP machine. (even though I can ping in both directions). I set BlackICE on the 98 machine to accept the XP machine's IP address--no difference. I tried uninstalling BlackICE--no difference. I'm stuck!

JackMDS, thanks for the reply. I read through your links again. Over the past few weeks, I've been through them and several on PracticallyNetworked.com many times, all to no avail. Am I missing anything when sharing a folder on XP? I enabled Sharing under the Properties selection.
