Problem Networking WINME and WIn2k

Hey guys heres the problem when I try to network these guys they are able to share internet access VIA Cable modem and even play games with each other. I set up the IPX Protocol everythings set but when I try to access files on the other computer it says "Network path not found" however it does see it. Is this a bug between the 2 OSes help me guys!

Did you enable file sharing, and bound it to the Default Protocol, on each computer.

Why IPX? You do not IPX unless you are using netware. Set NETBEUI protocol on both computers, enable sharing on both and then on My computer click on the drive that you want to share and set it as
shared resource.

Ok update....WIn2k machine sees WinME and CAN access files...however WinME machine sees Win2k machine...but CANNOT access files....error is "No permission to access resource" could this be something with the account setup in win2K? Input please thanks guys..

PS Is there a way to get around this without NETBEUI I heard NETBEUI is bad...and slows down networks is that true?

Run a search on the topic. This issue has been discussed at least four times in this forum. I think you will find what you need.

hate to say this but for all these home networks with problems browsing you should use netbeui. This eliminates most of these "i can't see my other computer"

I don't have any problems at all running my home network on IP, BUT there are a number of configuration settings you need to be aware of in order for it to work well. Plus MS browsing is inherently quirky without a WINS server.

So from now on my default answer is to install netbeui (cringe)

Actually Netbeui is faster, but it likes to announce itself to other nodes on your network every 30 seconds or so, thus creating more traffic. Imagine a network of 30 computers all broadcasting every 30 seconds and you can see why its not great.

BlackDragon: your second problem is with permissions. Your computers are talking but you need to set up you win 2k box with a user that has the same username and password as the 98 computers. What its doing is seeing that it doesn't know who you are and is trying to use the guest account, which it sounds like is disabled. THIS IS GOOD. Guest accounts should remain disabled, IMHO. Just create multiple accounts and you should be good.
