Problem networking 2 WinME machines... HELP!!

okay.. here is the deal. each machine has ME on it. Machine 1 is on the network with internet access. it has 2 nics in it. the one for the personal network has an ip of 192.168.10.1. machine 2 has a single nic in it with the ip of 192.168.10.2. both have client for MS netowrks, file and print sharing, and tcp/ip on them. i can not get them to see each other.

machine 2 will see itself in the workgroup, but not the other machines. machine 1 will see all other machines except machine 2. i can not ping either machine from the other. i have tried the stupid "home networking wizard" with no luck at all. i need your guys' and gals' help!!!

i would also like to share the internet connection between them. i have not problems connecting a 98SE machine and an ME... but this is baffeling me. thanks!

well for them to see eachother in a peer to peer network, the IP has to be 192.168.0.x and the subnet of 255.255.255.0 i dont know about the connection sharing though

when you boot up the computer(s), do you log in with a user and password so that the network can give you access to other computers?

Someone mention this was one of the main reasons why people are having trouble w/networking 🙂

I don't run winME but I did network a whole bunch of win98 computers once w/file sharing and internet sharing some time ago.

well, changed the ips to 192.168.0.x. nothing happened.... i checked the cable... i switched the slot that the card is in... nothing....

i will get this figured out... and im taking all of you with me! 🙂

when aUt0eXebat refers to 192.168.0.x, you substitute a number for 'x', not put the letter 'x' in it 🙂

each computer should have the same 3 sets of numbers, and the last one different, hence the 'x'.

i think i solved the problem... i killed the tcp/ip stack on both machines... put them back on, and tinkered with some settings, and now it seems to be ok. thanks gor all your help guys

ahh.. you have found my secret to networking.. LOL. Glad you got it working!

Try searching microsoft's site for configuring ICS. They have a step by step instruction on how to configure it. I forgot the exact URL, but it's how I got mine to work.
