problem logging in on exchange 5.5 from a new 2003 ad domain

Hello,

I have a problem logging in on exchange 5.5 from a new 2003 ad domain.

The situation:
location a:
Windows NT4 server with exchange 5.5 (domain name XXXXXX)

location b:
windows 2003 server with ad (domain name YYYYYYY)

On location b there is still the old server witch works fine. The new server replaces the old one and my client
wants the domainname changed.

What i have done.

1. Established a "trust"between the server on location a and the new server.
2. configured dns zones on the new 2003 server so the computers on the new domain can see the domain on location a.
(i get access to the domain on location a, can use the network shares etc.)

The problem is, when i try to connect to the exchange server on the other domain outlook sais it can't find the mailserver.

My questions:

Do i have to cofigure dns to point the users to the exchange server on the other location. How do i do that?
Do i have to change settings on the exchange server? (because of the name change of the new domain)
The passwords have changed too because of the new rules regaring passwords in 2003. Is that a problem?


Ofcourse during testing we shut down the old server ;).

How are the users connected to the old site? Are you on the same network, or using a VPN?

They are connected via a permanent vpn connection. But the exchange server is also the domain controller in the other network. And i can reach the server and the network shares just fine.

OK. The first thing that came to mind with Outlook is problems with RPC connections. But a VPN should be OK....

Any chance that firewalls are blocking RPC traffic? You seem to have DNS resolution, so "not finding the server" seems odd. But if's only OUTLOOK "not finding the server"....I'm thinking RPC.

Also, make sure that the Outlook clients are seeing a WINS server at the old domain.

Well, the old nt server works just fine with the exchange server. there are no internal firewalls configured. I'l try tonight to contact the mail server with it's ip address instead of the netbios name. if i can contact the server this way i'l know it's a dns problem.
Then i have to find out if i have to change/edit settings on the exchange server in order to get it to accept "old" users from a "new" domain)
