Hi everyone,

DVD Burner (Asus DRW-2014L1T) has been working fine in system #2 below for over a year. I recently moved this PC up to my son's room and un-installed most of my programs from the Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Now...Win Vista is having trouble loading the drivers for the DVD-RW drive.

I've gone into Device Manager and tried to update the drivers, as well as removing the device, rebooting, and letting Windows find it again. It keeps telling me the drivers are up to date.

But in Device Manager, it tells me that it can't load the drivers and they may be missing or corrupt. Went to the Asus download site and all they have are firmware updates - no device drivers.

How do I fix this?

Thanks!
Aaron

that did it! Thanks!

I always forget about the MS Knowledgebase. Was searching everywhere for the Asus drivers, but turns out I didn't need them.

I did install some image editing apps. That must have been the culpret.

Thanks again

I actually see & "fix" this issue nearly once a week with customers.

It happens seemingly randomly on pretty much all different brands/types of systems.

I really would like to know what programs cause this, as it seems there are quite a number that can trigger this issue.

I removed a lot of stuff from this PC. Was careful do it it all via an uninstall program, but apparently that wasn't good enough. The only thing I can think that might have done it was my Sony camcorder stuff. They had some image capture/burn software and various other tools. Everything else I removed (Office, ftp, image editing, iTunes, etc, etc) I don't THINK would have caused this, but who knows.

I did read up on this a little and saw a few mentions to where this was not a MS problem, but rather a bad/failed uninstall. Oh well, at least its working now. Thanks again.
