problem istalling win on wd black drive

i just built a new cpomputer that works fine win a linux live cd but when i tried to install win 7 on the wd black hard drive , win 7 halts and appears to be asking for a driver for this drive. i see no such driver on wd website and i would find it hard to believe ms wouldnt have put that on the win 7 dvd. i am installing with a sony dvdrw. the hard drive is brand new. i havent formated or partitioned it but win 7 does that right?

We would need more details to be able to diagnose this problem. What motherboard is it? What is the specific error message? Etc.

its an msi g31 tm p21. so i putr the new hard drive in and booted from the dvd and hit "new" and after a really long time (hour) of watching the little circle i get the following error:

"windows coiuld not create a partition on disk 0. the error occurred while preparing the partition selected for installation error code 0x80042405"

does it sound like newegg sent me a bad hard drive. i know there are a lot of bad wd black drives. also i dont think i can even hear the drive spinning although the hard drive light goes on. also have you heard of sony/nec dvdrw's being bad drives top install win 7 from?

am i doing something wrong here? when you install a brand new harddrive and you want to just have 1 partition to install everything on that do you just click "new" on "disk 0 unallocated space". is it normal for the window 7 installer to then take an hour to do that?

do i need to format "unallocated space?" or does the win 7 installer do that automatically

the bios must be set and the boot order for a new mobo,

does the hd show up at the post screen ?

a raw drive must have its partition set and be formated for windows to install.

so i just replaced the sony dvdrw with a pioneer and also replaced the cheap meritline sata cable to the hd and win 7 installed immediately. so i guess when you read reviews at newegg that say sony/nec dvdrw's cant install win 7, it is probably true.

sorry for the false alarm everyone. i promise ill make it up to you all by posting some good deals in the hot deals forum!!!!!
