When I try and install Windows XP, both from booting from cd or going into win98 and running setup and new install, XP setup hangs up on the Blue screen saying 'Starting windows' It just sits there, and no matter what i seem to do I can't get it to go past that screen. Has anyone had the same problem and does anyone know how i can fix it?

The system I'm installing it on is a 1.33 ghz athlon w/ MSI k7t Turbo (RAID)
756 megs of pc 133 ram
ASUS 8200 Deluxe (Geforce3)
SB Live! Value
Netgear 10/100 network card

Hey,I havent tried this myself. But Im about to get XP pro and asked about doing a clean install from a Win98 boot disk and this is what i was told:

hi
win 2k and win XP's setup file is not windows compliant. so you have to run the actual set up file in dos. the start up disk you have is dos. so when you put the cd in, you go to the drive letter. then you type in cd (this stands for change directory) then put a / (this tells it your changing the DIR, then you put the folder name. so you end up putting
" cd drive letter/cd/i386"
that puts you in the i386 folder. that is where the set up file is. once your in the I386 folder you need to type
"winnt"
that is basicly the setup file that gets windows to start. you should write this all down, cause if you format, then pop the cd in and type setup nothing is gonna happen for you man. that would sux. this is the main thing you need
1. go to your cd drive letter
2 type "cd/i386"
3 type "winnt"

that should do it. i think the / is the right way. if not it is \
(i always get the 2 mixed up)
let me know what you think.
thanks

Hope this helps!

Also if your hdds are only on RAID controller, make sure you press F6 and load W2K drivers when it asks for it, and switch BIOS to fail-safe defaults, this is the only thing that worked for me, otherwise the system was hanging at Starting Windows XP
