I am building 4 computers with the following configuration

ASUS K8V-X K8T800 Motherboard
Seagate ST380817AS 80 SATA Hard Drive
AMD 64 3000+ ATHLON 64

I borrowed a floppy drive from one of my other computers and installed it in the new system. Used the CD that came with the Motherboard and ran the create driver disk tool on the disk to make the Driver flopy.

Windows press F6 during the Install bootup to add the SATA Drivers. Windows finds the driver on the floppy finds the drive and moves on like everything is normal. I am able to format the HD and setup begins to copy the files needed for installation to the HD. Than it comes back with the Error
"Setup can not copy the file: viaraid.sys"

I have tried 3 different disks, 2 different floppy drives on all 4 of the new computers and I am getting the same error at this point. If I skip this file windows installs but on the 1st bootup says your computer has been shut down to prevent damage.

What am I missing here.

Hum.. sounds like you're doing everything right to me.

How did you make the boot floppy (what files you used, etc)? Do you think you could try another operating system just to see if it installs correctly?

I actually had that problem the last time I installed XP on my box... seems that when trying to install the XP CD from a DVD drive, it would have trouble reading the CD. When I switched it to my older backup CD drive, it installed fine.

If you have an old 4x or so crappy CD drive hanging around, try installing via that and then shoving it back into a drawer to collect dust bunnies when you are done...

this has been a known problem. winxp does not format sata drive correctly. Use seagate winstall cd and boot from it. Use its ulitiy program to format the hard drive. Reboot and install xp. GL
