Problem installing XP Pro on single SATA

I'm having real trouble installing Win XP Pro on a single SATA drive. I provide the third party Promise drivers for the HD at the start of the XP install but when it gets to the install screen that shows the available drives my SATA drive shows up as a 0 MB drive. If I continue anyway I get a GPF that indicates install can't write to the HD. At this point I would just assume that my HD is bad if it wasn't for the fact that using the MB raid setup at boot shows the drive as an 80 GP SATA drive. Does anyone have any ideas for me to try?

Thanks for any help you can provide,

Uhh, what motherboard? What particular Promise SATA controller? What hard drive model?

-SUO, currently boots 2K3 Standard, XP, 2K, ME, Linux, FreeBSD off a Promise SATA150 TX4 & Raptor 36GB
