im having a problem when i try to install windows xp. When i put the windows xp [pro] cd in and boot from it, it goes through all of the checks etc... but when it gets to the "set up is starting windows" preparation, it just stops and goes no further. Ive tried quite a few times but all trials ended the same, unsuccessfully. This is my first time building a computer and installing a windows operating system for that matter, someone please help!

For the record, i have an ASUS P4P800 deluxe, a P4 2.6c, a 200 gig WD hard drive, and a gig of crucial pc3200 memory.

First, welcome to AnandTech Forums! I just built my new system with the same exact parts as you (except 80GB hdd and kingston 3200 1GB ram). Does your disc have any scratches or dust/fingerprints on it? Try cleaning off the disc then try again. If that doesn't work, I would also try a different cd-rom drive. Also, with your ram, I assume it is 2 sticks of 512MB. You put both sticks in the blue slots right (it goes blue, black, blue, black)? Let me tell you this system is the fastest computer I have ever used! You really have something to look forward to.
