Problem installing Win98se on Asus P4C800 Deluxe

Hello all,
I hope you guys can help me out there...
I have this strange problem with my new system.
The config is:
Asus P4C800Deluxe with latest Bios from Asus (1010)
2X256MB Ram Corasir 3200 CL2
Radeon 9500 Pro ATI
80GB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 ata133

ANyway, I am experiencing problems when trying to install WIn98se. It simply WILL not install...!
No matter how many times I try, the installation process freezes in the middle and I can do nothing but reset the PC.
Is this a problem with Win98se not being able to work with ATA 133 Drives? Has anyone even heard of a symptom like this?
I know that some new motherboards do not "officilay" support Win98se since it is quite obsolete, can this be the case here?
Maybe it is not a mobo issue , maybe the HDD is to "blame" here...?
Please shed some light on this for me...

for win98se you have to disable hyperthreading in bios!
you also have to set your ide devices to compatible mode instead of the default enhanced.

You may be running up against the "Win98 with a CPU over 2.1GHz issue". There's an article here.. You'll also need the "ndis.vxd" driver. I guess you can pry it out of MS but you may be able to find it somewhere else too. Thugs know about this, he's one of those Win98-running Luddites . He can probably point you in the right direction.

that issue only surfaces when you go online!

Now regarding that 2.1Ghz CPU issue, I did not run into it yet so I will wait until I do
Anyway, have you guys here heard of a compatibility issue that this mobo has with certain revisions of the Ati Radeon 9500 Pro cards?
In the manual that comes with the mobo, it is said that is supports only PN: XXX-XXXX-30 or later.
Mine is 00, so what do I do now... just wait and try it out...?
Also, does the fact that I disable Hyper Threading and put IDE on compatibility mode, make the PC performance lower, or make my Dual boot Xp work slower??

You should also relax the timings on your memory and have it run 2.5-3-3-7 @ 2.7 volts or so. The board is not known for liking to run super-tight timings. For a step-by-step how-to on adjusting the timings on the P4C800's, visit this thread: link to instruction thread

The other guys' suggestions are great too, and if you need a link to that patch for >2.1GHz CPUs, send a PM (private message) to Duvie, I think he has the patch you need.

Will it affect noticably the performance under WinXP Pro?

Disabling hyperthreading is probably going to reduce the multitasking with WinXP Pro in some situations, yeah I don't know about the IDE compatibility-mode question though.

I dual boot win98 & xp and still find using xp works blasingly fast with the ide channels using compatible mode.

Can you please recommend me the BIOS settings for my system as it is described above?
Take in mind that I am a gamer, quite a heavy one actually ...!
So the IDE set to compatible does not really slow down XP Pro, does it...?!?
BTW, how can I know if I my HDD is running using the 133ATA and not on 100ATA?
