I'm having trouble installing a SLK900u on a MSI 655 Max with a P4-2.4HT processor. I'm trying to install it with the x-plate and w/o the mounting bracket that came with the motherboard. The heatsink refuses to clamp on properly to the processor. Every time I try to install it the heatshink ends up loose (I can lift it up about a quarter of an inch off the die). I've used the instructions on the website but they haven't helped. Could someone walk me through this process? Thanks. -Gast

I see that there are two ways of installing the SLK-900U on a Pentium4. You can opt to use the existing retention brackets, or remove them and use the X-plate under the motherboard. Which way did you decide on for yours?

If you're using the X-plate, then look at the diagram and make sure you got the "metal washers" under the springs, and that the standoffs aren't being jacked up off the mobo by too many washers (or washers that are too thick).

If you're using the existing P4 "cage", then make sure that the "plate transforms" are mounted in the orientation shown.
