Problem Installing DVD Drive

My Windows box has the following components:
-- Windows 2000 Professsional
-- Celeron 600 MHz on an Abit BH6
-- Pacific Digital 8X DVD+-RW
-- 48X CDRW

After a cold boot, the machine will display the text screen with "Starting Windows" at the bottom. The progress bar will reach about 40 percent then freeze.

After a warm boot (after a reset) , the machine will freeze after detection of the IDE devices. The Primary/Secondary Master/Slave will be correctly detected and then ** FREEZE **.

I have played with my BIOS as per instructions I've found on the 'net to no avail. All of my CMOS settings are for AUTO detection of devices.

I'm stumped as to any further steps.

Help, Bob

is the DVD-RW drive on the same cable as another device? (namely your hard drive) if it is make sure its on a cable by itself.

Do you have enough power to rung the additional device? Have you tried the drive in another machine to ensure that it is not the drive that is defective?
