Problem installing 2k / XP Please Help!

I am trying to install Win 2k or XP (both fail in the same way), and they hang in the middle of the first process of loading drivers.

The system is:
P3 500 100 FSB slot 1
128mb PC100 RAM
GF2 MX
Biostar M6TZA Motherboard
Kingston NIC
12 speed CDROM

First of all, it can take several minutes at the least for this step to complete.

If you're sure it's hanging, then remove all hardware except video card from your machine, turn off all the hardware in the BIOS (COM ports, USB, etc.) and install to a machine that has the minimum hardware you can get.

Then start inserting/enabling hardware devices one at a time until you discover the one that's causing the problem.
