im not cr0ss p0stiing . but i didnt had any good reply in other forum and it was mistakenly posted on gen.hardware.

BUT PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS

My current VGA is ASUS FX5800 non Ultra card with 400core and 800mhz mem.
I dont overclock it and always it is at about 48'c, and 65'c temperature @ maximum.

but couple of days ago when I was using WinXP (not any 3d work) some areas of my screen showed some hundreds of small squares (about 4 x 4pixels in size)
when I tap my cpu case it was changing

I restarted and from the boot screen the squres were there and it only shows them in colour background, DOS and other text were normal.

i thought the AGP port was loose, but in other motherboards also this problem came.
And I use another VGA on this Mboard, it worked properly.

when i shake the casing the problem getting worse.

so please help me, Im g0ing to the dealer (i used it over 1year+ but got ASUS 3yr warranty)
any thing to check/ do before go??

I really love this CARD and i will have lots of problems to warranty claim, (thaey dont have a good money worth vga now and got those 6600LE 256MB s)

Thanks.

Could be the Fan is dying out on it. It is Not good tho, to Shake a computer, Hard drives have "Platters", ( discs ), that spin in there, and if 2 of them hit each other... bad deal.
If possible, I would recommend looking at the fan while its running, Not by flipping the case upside down, :D , but by getting your head down by the floor, and looking, not touching anything.
If you can't see the fan,( on the underside of the card ), then ask the wife, girlfriend, coworker, or any lady in the immediate vicinity for a "Compac" ; the little powder thing with a the Mirror that you will maybe need to see the fan.

So, if the fan is not turning, power the system down, unplug the system from the wall, and use your Canned air to clean it. If the fan is spinning fine, tell us here.
Hope this helps some.

Thanks biglar,

itstarts with whooshing sound and after 5sec. it becomes noise less,
like that it underclocks to 300Mhz, it is normal for it

You could try Reseating the card maybe, After of course you unplug it from the electric.
I don't understand the "Underclocks to 300" statement, Can you elaborate on that, and have you Physically seen the fan spin After the Whooshing sound?

its normal core speed is 400mhz, but when theres no 3d apppliations, it underclock to 300mhz and the fan speed is low - low noise (but fan does rotates)

Yes Ive seen the fan rotates after and before the whooshing sound.

I have unpluged and reseated it several times but no change.
But if i put my casing horizontaly it'll much decreased, but after some time it shows up

Any cause for this type of act?

No, the fan should Never stop, unless you of course shut the computer down.
I would either RMA the card, as suggested by others, and possibly get an upgrade, or... I would purchase an after market fan for it and run that.

I'm not certain about the 5800, but having had a 5800U I can tell you it is normal for the fan not to spin in 2D mode. The card reduces clockspeed in 2D mode like most modern nV cards do, and with the cooling used@the reduced clockspeeds it simply doesn't get stressed enough in most 2D useage to need the active cooling. Looking at the cooler on his I'd say it is not unusual for it not to spin up in 2D mode either.

Now to troubleshooting, It sounds like the cooler is detached from the core and you have heat artificating. That would explain why when shaking the case *as said don't do that anymore :) * the problem intensifies, because it is even further off the core. Try removing the cooler, adding some new thermal compound *Radioshack or a computer store will have what you need* and reseat it properly on the card again. I would also go to the clockspeeds tab and enable the "fan always on" setting. If you don't see it install the latest drivers and coolbits to access the tab again, then you should see the option.

yes actually when i started pc i forgotten to plug the gpu powersupply cable, so in a (error) massege it said it will get to lowest level of perfomance. so i think it maybe the cause for stopping the fan.

i am in asia (no radioshcks), so are there any specific thermal compound or can i use CPU one???

thanks everyone!!!

If you have played around with the fan, I wouldn't think they would replace it, but you might give them something to laugh about if you try to get it replaced by the shop that sold it to you.
If you can get Arctic Silver 5, then you can use that thermal compound for the fan, but, if not, use what you can get - something proven though.

The CPU thermal compound is fine, same stuff. You definitely need to use the extra power connector as you experienced, and having one that is unshared with other devices is a good idea too.

As to the warranty, I'd call tech support and work with them. That way you get a case number and if they will permit you to reapply T.I.M. and reseat the cooler, you keep the warranty in tact.

how to detach the VGA heat sink+ fan

How can i detach my ASUS GeF FX5800nu heatsinks?

they got some clips with springs runs through heatsinks up and under the card.

is there a way to identify a card that has detached the heat.s. and re attached ??
(cause any chance of destroying the warranty???)
