Problem in connecting Logitech Z680 to TV

Hi All,

This is my first post here. I initially tried searching this forum for similar problem, but could not find one. So I am posting it. I am kind of newbee. So please ignore my mistakes and help me correct it.

I have a Logitech Z680 5.1 speakers. I wanted to connect it to my TV(RCA). The TV had audio out(L/R) at the back. So I purchased a y-cable from radioshack(phono plug to dual phono plug - all male) and and audio extension cable(phono plug(male)-phono jack(female)).

I then connected the dual phono plug to the back of my TV's audio out. Then using the extension cable connected the same to the digital coxial input of the Z680.

But I am not getting any sound. If I connect through the audio jack given by Logitech, i get the sound.

Please let me know what I have done wrong and how do I correct it to get sound from my speakers.

Thanks in Advance

Most TV's don't have dolby digital output (it may if it is an HDTV, some of them do).

My Comcast Cable box has SPDIF output for sound though, so that outputs fine to the Z-680s. Unfortunately, not much is encoded in 5.1 anyway, other than HBO really (at least on my Comcast).

Will I be able to get the DOLBY quality sound with actual 5.1, if I do this.
