Problem in AMD 64

I'm running a amd 64 3000+ and all i can say is something is royaly screwed up. The computer is sluggish as all hell(this was before I put in my 9600pro drivers.) even after i did that, it was getting hung up on processes, and such. I have a program that alows me to connect to the internet at school, and it takes every other boot up for it to work for 5 min and then it just shuts off. I have no clue what the problem is. I might need to go back to the old IDE cables b/c the rounded ones are very crimped in my case, could that perhaps be it? I don't think it's my OS, Windows XP SP1.

Any help would be appericated.

A history of how you got to this problem would be a big help.
Sounds like a bios problem. Incorrect settings/oc failure.
