For some reason, ever since this computer was built, it has had trouble with CD-based drives. Whether reading or writing, it always pops up sooner or later. For some reason, when doing a protracted install, or sometimes when burning a disc, the CD drives will start to speed up and slow down. They will continue this during the whole course of the read/write once they have started. The first time it happened with my CD drive I RMAd it. Turns out the drive wasn't the problem.
Could it be a problem with my motherboard? I have an ABIT KT7 RAID, though I'm not running a RAID array on it at this time.
Could it be the power supply? I have an Antec case, and my PS is either 350 or 400 watts, I cannot recall which.
I am going to be upgrading soon, as my machine is fairly far behind the technology curve now and is having some problems with frequent lock-ups. I wanted to know if it could be the PS causing the CD drive problems though, so I could pick up a new one to install in the case when I upgrade.
