Problem:Graphics card or power supply?

Started having some weird trouble with my rig last week. When I try to play games or run advanced graphical apps the videocard driver either crashes or I get a system lockup.
When running windows and not pushing the videocard everything is fine.
If I run everest and push the fpu/cpu burn in everything is fine. This pushes the cpu to 25amps.
If I run 3d burn in tests which push the videocard to 50amp everything starts crashing.
So this is either a problem with the videocard not being able to do advanced graphics or a problem with the power supply not putting out enough power.
Any suggestions/ideas?
I do not currently have another power supply to test the card nor do i have another powerful card to test the PSU.

XFX Radeon 5870 + PCP&C 850W.
 
simple test, swap the video card for another and or swap the psu for another and try. If swapping the video card to another allows the system to work under stress then the video card is bad. If swapping the psu yields no fix then the video card is bad. If swapping the psu does make a difference then you have your answer and so on and so on.

Think you missed the second to the last line I posted.
 
P5q deluxe. Alas no integrated video. Anyway that would use the same power as pushing the cpu. Ah well. Ordered a GTx670 so here's to hoping the videocard was the problem.
 
Actually I am attempting an RMA but I just remembered that I flashed the bios on the thing to an unlocked bios and forgot to backup the old bios. Oops. Looked everywhere and could not find an identical bios either. Doesn't matter anyway as I think it had a 2 year warranty and I bought it from XFX in January of 2010 so it would have expired by now.
