hello,

I'm trying to connect my laptop to my roommate's AP. Here's the network setup. Cable modem goes into a router, and the AP and my computer connects to the router. his laptop connects to the AP but shows up on the router. My laptop with a Xircom card (cisco) is associated with the AP but not getting a valid IP (169.xxx.xxx.xxx). All the settings seem to be correct and WEP is turned off for now. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks a bunch!

You might need to give it a manual IP.

I had this problem on and off a few times with various notebooks and the same AP. Sometimes DHCP works, sometimes it does not. There really was no ryme or reason either

But, I give it a manual IP on the same subnet, and it works fine.

Does the AP have Access Control on BTW? If so, he will need to go into it, and allow your MAC to use the device.

G/L and PM me if you have any further questions,

Thanks for you help.

The mac address is registered with the AP and i've tried manual IP under the same subnet but it still doesn't work. Anyone else have suggestions?
