I have a gigabyte ds3 motherboard. The problem Im having is with the keybaord not working at startup.

For example I can go into the BIOS and make modifications using the keyboard and go to the use boot menu only after enabling USB keyboard support in BIOS.

The problem comes when I go to install the OS. I got to boot menu and select CD rom. After that it says "boot from CD rom?".. I cannot get the keyboard to work at this point. I think it wants me to say Y/N but nothing on the keybaord works. I tried setting optical drive as primary boot device and same problem. Obviously a problem getting keyboard to work in this mode.

Anybody have the DS3 and encountered these problems?

I checked a Google and couldn't find any known issues on this. Any suggestions?

BTW tried ps2 keyboard and same thing.

I don't know if it's the keyboard anymore. I set hdd as primary boot device and I did not get the prompt for y/n to boot off cd. I did however get stuck again at the same location. Somthing is hanging they system.

Meh. I think I narrowed it to my hdd. I am still using ide hdd and dvd drive until I upgrade to a raptor drive for my os. I updated the bios and it did not make much difference. I tried booting with only hdd connected and it was just sitting at the same screen. I plugged in only dvd drive an put an os cd in and it started loading files. Why the heck is this mobo having issues with this hdd? Will try to boot to dos to see if hdd is recognized there. maybe i can do setup from dos. :(

Check if the devices are all set to cable select (jumpers). If they have been set up as master/slave then make sure the master is connected at the end of the ATA cable (short of a choice the slave will obviously connect to the middle of the cable). That is if you are really using ATA drives. Avoid setting them to master/slave if they're alone on the channel they're sitting on. Use CS.

It turned out to be the drive. I have a smaller capcity ATA drive and it loaded the OS fine. I went into dos and FDISK saw the drive. I deleted partition tried to recreate but it was pooched. Drive is most likely bad.

Oh well, don't plan on running that drive for much longer since Im getting raptor shortly. Thanks for you help Kyanzes.
