title says it all.

I have an Audigy Platinum running in Windows XP Pro. I have not installed the drivers from the installation CD because my system will blue screen if I do. Instead, after I installed XP, I went to the device manager and updated the drivers using the AUDRVWDM.exe update.

I've tried going into Control Panel and configuring my speaker setup for surround sound, but it's no go. I can only get sound out of the front two speakers.

you have to do it via the creative mixer which means you have to install the original cd contents!

To change the speaker configuration you need to use the Creative Mixer. The windows sound control panel will not work.

The driver update you downloaded from Creative's website installs AudioHQ and the Creative Mixer. Look in Control Panels for a control panel labeled AudioHQ, run it, in the window that comes up run Speakers, you can configure your speaker setup from there.
