Hey all,

So I'm trying to flash the BIOS on my new MSI K8N Neo Platinum but I've come to a bit of a wall. The directions on MSI's site (http://www.msicomputer.com/support/BIOS_award.asp) are as follows:

1. extract the files to c:\test
2. make an ms-dos boot disk
3. boot off the boot disk, takes you to the a:\> prompt
4. go to c:
5. cd test, now you're in c:\test
6. flash BIOS from here

The only problem is...if you boot off a boot disk, YOU CAN'T GET TO C:. Usually when I flashed my BIOS in the past, I just unzipped all the bios files onto the floppy along with all the system files, and flash the BIOS directly from the floppy. Except, it specifically states in the instructions:

WARNING!!!!!
DON'T FLASH FROM A FLOPPY DISK!!!!

That's from the readme file that came with the BIOS zip file.

So I'm at a dead end. Has anyone else flashed their K8N Neo Platinum BIOS successfully? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm about to buy an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum. A friend of mine has the MSI K8T NEO-FISR2. He said that MSI boards come with a utility (or you can download it, I bet) that will automatically check for a new bios and flash it from Windows.

I had a MSI MB before that I could not get to flash, even after following every instruction to the letter...
That's why I've never bought another MSI since. :p

Thanks guys, I figured it out though. It comes with a tool called Live Update that flashes the BIOS from Windows as anindrew said. Worked like a charm and fixed all the problems I was having!

I guess that's one cool thing about the Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939. When you enter BIOS, there's a utility in there that you can use to back up and flash your BIOS. All you need to do is put the new BIOS file on a floppy so that it can read to it. You can back up the BIOS to the floppy as well.
