When I unzip the the zip file for the latest bios onto a floppy it creates a .awd file which Windows me says is a fax file. Any ideas what is going on here? I have tried it several times and it turns out the same which is unflashable.

I can help with this one :D Start by going here and downloading the DrDOS 7.x utility, then put a floppy diskette in your floppy drive and run the DrDOS utilty. It creates a bootable floppy diskette for you.

Next, go to Asus's download page for the A7N266-VM/AA and download the aflash221.zip file. Extract the aflash.exe file onto your bootable floppy diskette.

Now copy your 107nvm.awd file onto the floppy too.

Restart the computer with your bootable floppy in the drive. If it isn't already set to try to boot from floppy disk, you'll need to set it to do so (if you need help with that, just say). The computer should boot from the floppy diskette, say "Starting Caldera DR-DOS..." and end up at an A:\ prompt. Type

aflash.exe

and it will start the utility and ask what BIOS file you want it to flash. Type

107NVM.AWD

and let it ride. You don't need to save the old BIOS or anything.

Bigger picture: does the system need its BIOS updated? The usual reason, for this motherboard, is to support Thorton-core AthlonXP's or Applebred-core Durons.

Hope that helps :)

I have a problem with the cmos clock always running fast on this computer. It will reboot it self several times a day and corrects the time but
still runs fast afterward. It has done this since new and it is the only thing I haven't tried to fix it with.

Well the good news is the Bios reflash worked. The bad news is the time gained 13 minutes in the last 25min. I guess I should have sent this mother board back!

Out of curiosity, is your A7N266-VM system running off of an uninterruptible power supply, or is it on a domain? My A7N8X Deluxe used to gain time like that, but now that I've taken it home from work, it does not do it anymore. It no longer has a UPS, and it no longer is a member of a domain, so I was wondering if one of those two factors could have something to do with it.
