Problem --> "Error extracting support files: Access Denied"

The problem:

Trying to reinstall The Sims (game).

I had The Sims + Livin it Up + House Party installed.
Uninstalled it all. Removed the Maxis folder from registry.
Reinstalling The Sims works fine and plays fine.
When trying to install either Livin it Up or House Party I get the message:

Error extracting support files:
Access denied.

Any idea what is wrong?

I'm using Win ME.

You could try copying the entire CD to your harddrive first, then running the installer. Also, Maxis notes there may be problems with the expansions if you didn't install the Sims to the default path.

Your suggestion seemed to work because the installation wizard went through all the motions of "patching stuff" for a long time, but when trying to play it pops out just after loading the game.

Looking at the folders it doesn't seem like it has added any Livin it Up files at all, maybe just patched the original Sims.

(Before someone asks - Yes, I have all the original CD's.)
