I'm having trouble trying to enable the DMA option under windos 98 SE, when enable the option for my cd-burner and DVD and restart windows it disables itself again for some reason, and because of that I can't play games nor DVDs. I'm running win98se and win2k(in wich I have no trouble enabling DMA). If you could helpme with some info I would apreciate it, thanks.

if your DVD and burner on ata33 cable or ata66/100
because for ata33, even you enable DMA. it still be PIO mode
because i know this because i have DMA enable on both, but on bootup screen it still say PIO

Thanks chuckieland for the quick response. I have conected my DVD as the primary master, and my CD-burner as my secondary master both with ata/66 cable (my HD it's on the promise controller as ATA/100) and on bootup they show DMA mode 4(DVD) and DMA mode 2(burner), and as I said before the problem only presents under WIN98se(I have a dualboot with win2k).

how are you enabling the DMA? if through the via 4 in 1 drivers you need to uninstall the IDE part and use device manager to enable DMA for your devices. WIN98SE & WINME both have the via UDMA controller built into them so you installing it again is causing a conflict.
